North Carolina High Peaks is a hiking club centered in the Mount Mitchell area of North Carolina.  Our hike last weekend was to the Isom Mica Mine below Celo Knob and Deer Mountain on the western slope.  This 9 mile hike was a moderate 3 mile climb to 4000′ elevation.  The trail was along old logging trails and an ancient narrow gauge railroad and was lead by Cattail Creek residents Susan and Worth Weller, along with their three canine companions.  There were seventeen hikers from all walks of life and all ages.  Seven dogs made the experience even more enjoyable!
