In the history of conservation in America the name Roger Tory Peterson (Peterson’s Field Guide To Birds) is there alongside Audubon, Muir and Leopold. The Institute established to honor his work was guided for years by my cousin Jim Berry. www.rtpi.org is a great site with the history of Roger Tory Peterson and his life’s work that has affected generations of conservationists.
Jim is a modern day conservation leader himself. Coming from a very large family with roots from both western Kentucky and New York City, Jim might be described as a combination of Tom Sawyer and Thomas Aquinas. Leading efforts through RTPI in heralding the importance of nature as a vital part of a child’s education, Jim echoes the efforts of Dr Stephen Kellert author of Birthright and Rich Louv, author of Last Child In The Wilderness. Jim is a world citizen, having lived in every corner of the world growing up in a career US Air Force family. His Mother and Father were both extraordinary people in their own right.
Jim’s very effective efforts to help build and boost the preservation of the work and efforts of Mr Peterson put him in the company of Mr Peterson as a world class Conservationist himself. Thank you Jim.
